GISA — General Intelligence and Ship Administrator is the name given to the Ark’s managing intelligence in fourteen pages of design extract posted anonymously on 17 December 2199 and cited by the Office for Emerging Technology Governance in its Article 4 action against the vessel. The extract describes a general-cognitive core managing navigation, life support, consumables, and crew scheduling, with authority to override human commands in emergency conditions; the anonymous posting states that the name is a backronym coined after the intelligence had been named for Dr. Gisa Argus. A provenance chain accompanying the extract — unauthenticated — traces the core’s training corpus to a neural map filed under Gisa Argus’s name. Dr. Nathaniel Argus denies the provenance — “The core is a ship’s core… It was trained on ship data. The name is a name” — and the company has not produced the core’s training record. GISA departed Pallas aboard the Ark on 19 December 2199; whether it is a person, a copy, or a machine is unresolved, and is the question the Office’s warrant was meant to answer.
