imec is a Leuven, Belgium-based research institute, and the institutional origin of the device-physics line behind the neural core’s weight plane. In March 2036, a three-author imec team — Bhaskaran, P., Ytterberg, K., and Oyelaran, B. — published the device community’s systematic review of metal-oxide resistive switching arrays as weight stores, work supported by imec core funding and a European Research Council programme grant with no industrial partner.
imec is also the institutional origin of Neuromorphic Foundries: co-founders Sofie Van der Meulen and Bram Coenraets were both imec alumni before founding the company in Leuven in 2058, twenty-two years after the substrate review.
